The road to carbon neutral furniture production

Find out how we are promoting sustainably manufactured products

At Sundry, we’re committed to becoming a more sustainable business. From encouraging our customers to buy local to save van miles, to promoting eco alternatives, we are continually adapting our business model in line with the changing economic climate.

One way we promote our commitment to sustainability is by choosing ethical and sustainable suppliers.

Netzero Carbon

With targets for a carbon neutral economy by 2050, time is ticking to become a more energy efficient and sustainable business, one that can prove commitment to carbon neutrality.

One of our major furniture suppliers in the UK has recently set out to achieve Netzero carbon. By 2035 they plan to minimise the carbon footprint of their production, way in advance of the 2050 deadline. This supplier creates design-led furniture including our Social Spaces range that is fundamental to the creation and wellbeing of the modern, open plan office environment.

How is carbon neutral furniture produced?

To establish the amount of carbon their manufacturing produces, they have employed an external company to install devices to monitor the amount of carbon produced. This equipment has given reliable insight into their current carbon footprint. With this evidence, they have created a detailed roadmap and tasked a ‘Green Team’ to work on key milestones on the road to Netzero carbon status.

What do these targets include?

Changes along the road to 2035 include:

  • Switching to a renewable energy supplier
  • Creating a recycling plan with a zero to landfill policy
  • Installing more electric car charging points
  • Installing a biomass wood burner to replace using gas
  • Delivery fleet to use biofuel or electric to power vans
  • Installation of solar panels
  • Offset remaining carbon through global initiatives

How Sundry Supplies are striving to achieve Netzero carbon

Here are just a few ways that we are reducing our business carbon footprint:

  • Supplying an ever-increasing range of eco products (stationery, facilities, packaging, envelopes)
  • Encouraging support for local businesses
  • Optimising delivery routes to save van miles
  • Choosing ethical suppliers
  • Packing orders in reusable or recyclable materials
  • All possible materials recycled in the office
  • Switching to electronic invoicing to minimise print
  • Using energy saving lightbulbs throughout the office
  • Encouraging car sharing
